Volunteers Are Requested to Assist in Recovery Operations for Milwaukee County DisasterTo All CERT Members, Milwaukee County sustained significant losses caused by the severe thunderstorms and torrential rains on Saturday, June 7, 2008, and Sunday, June 8, 2008. Substantial damage has been incurred to public and private property. The Milwaukee County Executive has proclaimed a state of emergency exists in the county and has declared Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, to be a major disaster area. Milwaukee County Emergency Management has reported the disaster assessment indicates the cost of recovery from this disaster is beyond the resources available within the county. Therefore, the Milwaukee County Executive has requested state and federal disaster aid resources. The major operational activities are debris removal from the wind damage and floods. As flood waters are lower, there will be increased activity to repair damage to roads and structures. There will be a great need for assistance to help homeowners clean up their basements and to assist elderly or special populations. All communities in the county have been impacted, with significant impact in the City of Milwaukee and suburban areas in the southwest, west, northshore and southshore communities in Milwaukee County. We are currently recruiting CERT members to volunteer in positions they would be interested in filling to assist in Clean up and Recovery Operations in Milwaukee County. This is Your Chance to show Our Communities What Our Citizens Have been Training For When Disaster Strikes. If you're interested, please fill out the Volunteer Position Registration Form and send it as indicated on the form. Thanks for your continued Support and Commitment to Volunteering Your Services. |
